SHIBDEN DALE RIDING CLUB FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER
Hi all! I’m not going to comment on the weather because I know what we all think about that (!), but soon the horses will be shedding their teddy bear coats and we’ll be rushing about to get ready for the first show of the season – hurrah!

Winter Dressage - As always our dressage shows will be up at Royds Hall Arena. This year we introduced a points scheme and it’s not too late to take part and win a rosette, which will be presented at a special ‘do’ in April. Next dressage Sunday 21st February – judge Mr J Lloyd.
Schedules and rules are available on the club website at www.shibdendale.co.uk and there is a guide to SDRC Dressage on the club blog as well at www.shibdendale.wordpress.com.
Easter In-Hand Show -Just like last year this will be held up at Cheesecake Farm, Oakenshaw. Schedules will be out next month and on the club website shortly.
Summer Season - Schedules for the points shows are now up on the website and will be posted out next month.
Committee News - We’ve been a busy bunch and we’ve treated the working hunter folks to £500 worth of new fences! There will be fillers (sorry!) but only in the bigger classes and I’m sure you’ll all enjoy the challenge.
At the last committee meeting we made some changes to the points schedule from previous years with the addition of new classes such as Senior Handler to name just one. These changes are highlighted with a * on the schedule and there are also some details on the club’s blog at www.shibdendale.wordpress.com.
In the show jumping ring we have a new course designer; Andrew Walker who has competed internationally and now devotes his time to running his livery yard, schooling horses and giving lessons – see more at www.awequestrian.co.uk. Andrew is donating a pair of show jumping fillers to the club for the new season so watch this space!
Membership - On the membership front we have frozen prices for the 4th year in a row and now we have the option to receive your newsletters by email only which will make it even cheaper! Membership forms are now up on the website and will be sent out in one of the next newsletters.
Charity Show
This year our chosen charity is “Help For Heroes” (http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/) who raise money to support members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of Great Britain.
We are starting our search for sponsors early this year so ask everybody you know if they’d be willing to sponsor a class. Sponsorship fees are £7.00 per class and £10.00 for a championship, and we will include name and contact details in the schedule and on rosettes where possible, so tell your boss that it’s an ideal advertising opportunity plus (business buzz words coming right up!) a good bit of corporate social responsibility!
Coming Up
We’re trying to find a date in our busy calendars for another equine car boot sale up at the Laura Brennan Equestrian Centre so as soon as that’s organised we’ll let you know.
And because the last fun ride we organised with the Shibden & District Bridleways Association was so popular, we’ll try to squeeze another of those in too!
