June 2010 Newsletter

We’re well into the showing season now – isn’t it going fast?

First Points Show
We did well with the weather. It was great to see so many people taking part and a warm welcome to all of our new competitors. Well done to everybody who took part, and results are now on the club website www.shibdendale.co.uk - any queries or problems relating to results please contact Chris 01274 672010 – or come at see her at the next show (in the afternoon when the entries trailer isn’t quite so ‘manic’) !.
There are quite a few photos on our Facebook page and you can see professional photos at http://www.chameleonphotography.co.uk/.

Annual Show 2010

Once again – we were lucky with the weather and the attendance was up on last year. Congratulations to everyone who attended – the judges ALL commented on the excellent standard of horses and riders taking part – that’s praise indeed.
Were ‘re-jigging’ the annual show for 2011 – if you have any ‘requests’ for societies, classes, affiliation changes then please e-mail angela@matchmakers.co.uk I can’t promise we can make everyone happy but we’ll try our best!!

Coping With The Heat

The weather has cooled down again this week, but you never know – we might get a hot summer! You can read the full post on our blog at www.shibdendale.wordpress.com, but here are a few things you can do to help your horse stay comfortable over the summer:
1. Consider stabling during the day and turning out at night if there is no shade in the field.
2. Make sure that your horse has 24-hour access to as much water as it wants, preferably in two separate buckets and if possible, allow your horse to drink during pauses in exercise.
3. Ride early or late in the day and try to stay in the shade as much as possible, or ride uphill to find a nice breeze.
4. If your horse is very hot, keep him in the shade, hose him with cool water, and immediately scrape the water off the coat. Don’t let your horse into the sun until he’s dried off completely – water on the skin heats up and can result in your horse getting even hotter.
5. Consider turning out in a white fly rug to try and reflect some of the heat away from your horse.
Charity Show Sponsorship
September isn’t too far away now, and we’re looking for people and businesses to sponsor classes at our charity show. The sponsorship of classes means that all of the proceeds from the show can be donated to our chosen charity – this year we are supporting Help For Heroes.
Help for Heroes raises money to support members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of their country. The money is used to provide much needed services in the form of grants given to such as Personnel Recovery Centres and the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA). You can find out more on their website: www.helpforheroes.org.uk.
Sponsorship costs £7 per class and £10 for a championship. As a sponsor you will be named in our schedule and on the club’s blog. If you or somebody you know are interested in sponsoring a class, please contact Janet Scott on 01274 410231 or janets7@blueyonder.co.uk

Thanks
The club would like to thank Andrew Walker Equestrian Services for providing us with a fab set of new fillers for the jumping ring. Andrew is available for a range of equestrian services including breaking, schooling, livery, tuition and hay/haylage – contact him on 07742 466 671.
